Happy Birthday Epcot! The BIG 3-0

On October 1, 1982 Walt Disney World's second Orlando park opened to the public!

EPCOT means Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow, and this project was a dream of Walt Disney's for quite some time.  His original idea was to create a model community of the future that would house real residents and be an experiment in city planning and organizing.

The Epcot of today has two distinct sections within the park:  Future World and World Showcase.

In Future World (at the front of the park) sits the iconic Spaceship Earth (the big golf ball).  There are also several pavilions throughout Future World that house some great thrill rides and family experiences.  Some of the most popular attractions in Future World are Test Track, Mission Space, Soarin' and The Seas with Nemo & Friends.

The World Showcase is a series of 11 pavilions that sit around the World Showcase Lagoon.  Each of the 11 pavilions represents a different country.  A visit to World Showcase is a great way to experience different cultures, foods, music and art.

Epcot is also home to many wonderful festivals throughout the year.
Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is held each Fall.
Epcot is currently hosting this event for the 17th annual time!

The holiday season is a magical time at all of the Walt Disney World parks, including Epcot.  Epcot has an annual Holidays Around the World Candlelight Processional.

During the Spring you can enjoy the beautiful scenery at Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.  This festival offers everything from topiaries shaped like your favorite Disney characters, to beautiful gardens, to demonstrations from gardening specialists.

And in the Summer you can enjoy some great music at the Sounds Like Summer Concert Series.

This year, I had the privilege of spending my 30th birthday in Epcot...the very same year that Epcot itself would turn 30!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, EPCOT!

HAVE A MAGICAL DISNEY DAY!
Candice
