Day 14: 30 Day Disney Challenge

Day 14: Favorite Kiss - "Lady and the Tramp"

"Oh, this is the night, it's a beautiful night, and we call it bella notte. Look at the skies, they have stars in their eyes, on this lovely bella notte."

This is a classic Disney kiss! The mood is just right with beautiful music, romantic lighting, good food, and of course an unexpected kiss.  I mean, who hasn't wanted to go on a date and share a plate of spaghetti, just so they could experience this moment?

Day 13: 30 Day Disney Challenge

Day 13: Least Favorite Song - "Trust in Me" (The Jungle Book)

"Trust in me, just in me. Shut your eyes, and trust in me."

There aren't many Disney songs that I would consider to not be enjoyable. However, this is definitely one! I find it creepy and uninteresting (musically speaking). The song certainly makes sense in the context of "The Jungle Book," but I cannot enjoy it on it's own.

Day 12: 30 Day Disney Challenge

Day 12: Favorite Villain Song - "Cruella DeVil" (101 Dalmations)

"If she doesn't scare you, no evil thing will."

This dastardly, delicious song always takes me back to my childhood. I remember when "101 Dalmations" was released from the vault and we went out and bought it. What a treat! Family was in town from far away, and my much older cousin went around, all week, singing that song just to annoy me. Instead, he gave me a wonderful memory of their visit that comes back to me every time I hear this song.

This is the version of the song that I have on my iTunes.  Enjoy!

Day 11: 30 Day Disney Challenge

Day 11: Favorite Love Song - "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (The Lion King)

"Can you feel the love tonight, the peace the evening brings? The world for once, in perfect harmony with all its living things."

Elton John & Tim Rice were a dream team! The music that they made possible for "The Lion King" was nothing short of incredible! Because of their musical genius, we have enjoyed "The Lion King" in numerous forms. From film, to theme park stage shows, to Broadway..."The Lion King" is a feast for the senses!

Which performances of "The Lion King" have you enjoyed?

WDW Dining Suggestions with Pre-Schoolers

A friend just asked a GREAT question on my facebook page, and I thought the information was worth sharing!  They are taking their 4 year old son to Walt Disney World soon, and she wants dining recommendations.  As you probably already know, Disney knows food!  The parks, and resorts are packed full of dining options!

These are just a few of my dining suggestions for a trip to Walt Disney World with pre-schoolers.

(By the way, this list is not at all comprehensive, but just a few highlights of good, fun dining in WDW.)

Character DiningChef Mickey’s (Breakfast Buffet) in the Contemporary Resort.  Make reservations ASAP, they book up fast.  I suggest enjoying Chef Mickey’s for breakfast before your day in Magic Kingdom or Epcot (as you can just ride the monorail to your destination after you eat).  This dining experience is great for young children, because you get to enjoy time with Mickey and his pals (great photo opportunity), and it’s a buffet with lots to choose from (for those picky, pre-school pallets).
Of course there are many character dining options throughout the parks and resorts.  Consider your child’s favorite movies/characters, and that will be a great guide to helping you choose your character dining experience.
Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort

Magic Kingdom:  Throughout the parks you can find Mickey Mouse Ice Cream bars being sold.  This is an absolute must!  Make sure you get a pic of that sweet moment!  A great place for a hot dog is Casey’s Corner in the Main Street USA area of the park.  There will also be a signature drink in the New Fantasyland at Gaston’s Tavern, LeFew’s Brew.  It is frozen apple juice with a hint of toasted marshmallow topped off with passion fruit – mango foam.  It’s supposed to be excellent!  It has been a big hit in Disneyland’s Cars Land.   In Adventureland the Tortuga Tavern is a fun, pirate themed quick-service food spot.  They have an excellent build-your-own taco salad bar.  Also in Adventureland you can find the famed Dole Whip at Aloha Isle.  This little cup of frozen pineapple heaven can only be found in two locations at Walt Disney World, Aloha Isle in Adventureland (Magic Kingdom) and Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Resort (get there by monorail).
Dole Whip from Aloha Isle

Epcot:  Epcot is a food-lover’s paradise!  This park houses an annual Food & Wine Festival on select dates during the fall.  In Epcot, you can eat your way around the world in the World Showcase.  You can sample authentic fare in the 11 different country pavilions around the lake.  In Future World, at the front of the park, a fun food choice for lunch or dinner is Coral Reef Restaurant in The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion.  Reservations are recommended for this restaurant which offers a variety of seafood and steak.  I also recommend having a refreshing smoothie from Fountain View Ice Cream as you wait in line to get your picture made with Mickey and the gang at the Epcot Character Spot.
The Seas with Nemo & Friends Pavilion in Epcot

Hollywood StudiosDinosaur Gertie’s Ice Cream is located next to Echo Lake (close to the Indiana Jones stunt show).  Gertie’s is a walk-up, counter-service, snack stop that serves delicious soft serve ice cream.  It also pays homage to Walt Disney’s inspiration and animation’s beginnings.  Check out this blog post about the history behind Gertie the friendly dinosaur.  If your little one is a Toy Story fan, make sure you eat at Pizza Planet!  It’s located in the Streets of America area, just across from the Muppet Theater.  The Sunset Ranch Market is another good choice, they have a little bit of everything!  There are five counter-service restaurants in this open-air spot across from the Beauty and the Beast stage show.
Dinosaur Gertie's Ice Cream in Hollywood Studios

Animal Kingdom:  Animal Kingdom has a variety of quick-service dining options inside the park.  I definitely recommend making a reservation for Rainforest Café for the end of your day in this park.  There is an entrance to Rainforest Café at the exit of the park.  Since Animal Kingdom closes earlier than the other parks, and it doesn’t have a fireworks display at the end of the day, it’s a great way to end a fun day at Animal Kingdom.  I would not recommend this restaurant for children with sensory sensitivities.
Rainforest Cafe in Animal Kingdom (Yes, I was pregnant in this photo...don't judge.)

Downtown Disney:  Downtown Disney has a plethora of dining options!  There is a second Rainforest Café location here as well as a T-Rex restaurant.  T-Rex would be great if your child is into dinosaurs, but if that kind of thing might scare them, then I would skip it.  I would only recommend it on a case by case basis.  Both of these restaurants are not good choices for children with sensory sensitivities.  While in Downtown Disney, you must visit Goofy’s Candy Company!  There are sweets of every kind available at this exciting spot!  I definitely recommend taking home one of Goofy’s famous caramel/candy apples.  The variety of caramel apples is simply amazing, and they are beautifully delicious too!
Goofy's Candy Company in Downtown Disney

Every kid enjoys a swirly lollipop!  Especially when it's from Goofy's Candy Company.

*Don’t forget that you can take your own food & drinks into the parks with you.  You are allowed to bring in a small, soft-sided cooler with everything you need (just no glass bottles or alcohol).  Plus, you can get a cup of ice water for FREE at any counter-service restaurant within the parks!

***FOOD ALLERGIES:  Disney does a fantastic job catering to their guests with food allergies.  Just let them know when you order your food about your special food needs, and they will take care of it for you!***

Where would you take a 4 year old?

Day 10: Favorite Song - "Part of Your World" (The Little Mermaid)

"Wandering free, wish I could be, part of that world." - Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

It is really difficult for me to pick a "favorite" Disney song. I'm constantly putting on little Disney concerts in my kitchen for my kiddos! So it is very hard for me to just pick one. I chose, "Part of Your World" because I would say that this is my favorite Disney song to sing. It is right in my range, and always sounds good. "The Little Mermaid" has several songs that I consider to be my favorites, so it just makes sense to choose a song from this movie.

My favorites from "The Little Mermaid" include:

"Part of Your World"

"Under the Sea"

"Kiss the Girl"

Day 9:  Favorite "Original" Character - Mickey Mouse

"I only hope that we don't lose sight of one thing - that it was all started by a mouse." - Walt Disney

Mickey Mouse was a character born out of loss.  Walt Disney had just lost the rights to Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and seemed to be facing the end of a career, when on a train ride from Manhattan to Hollywood Mickey Mouse was born!  What started as a dark time, turned into the beginning of something beautiful.  Mickey Mouse is now known worldwide, and loved by so many.  I cannot imagine a world without Mickey Mouse.  So get out there and wear those EARS proudly!

Day 8: Favorite Villain - Mother Gothel
"Tangled"

"Skip the drama! Stay with Mamma! Mother knows best!"

There is no doubt that Old Mother Gothel is a mean girl! And she is my absolute favorite Disney villain! If I could have any part in any Disney show, this would be my first choice by a mile! The song, "Mother Knows Best" is awesome! Such a great character song with ample opportunity to belt. Too fun!

"Monsters, Inc."

"I can't believe it...I was on TV! Did you see me? I'm a natural." - Mike Wazowski "Monsters, Inc."

Mike Wazowski is my favorite Disney sidekick. He always delivers a laugh! He is also a great friend, who is greatly flawed. He is so very human for such a little, green monster!

Day 6: 30 Day Disney Challenge

Day 6:  Favorite Animal - Dumbo

"Baby mine, don't you cry.  Baby mine, dry your eyes.  Rest your head, close to my heart, never to part, Baby of mine."  - Lyrics "Baby Mine" from "Dumbo"

What's not to love about Dumbo?  He is absolutely precious!  Also, Dumbo is one of my all time favorite Disney movies.  Check out this blog post to read more about why I enjoy this Disney classic so much.  The mother/child relationship displayed in this movie is one of the sweetest, and most emotional  relationships seen in Disney movies.  This 1941 film is the 4th full-length animated film from The Walt Disney Company.

Day 5: Favorite Hero - Mickey Mouse in "Brave Little Tailor"

"I killed seven with one blow!" - Mickey

This 1938 short film is a classic! In the film, Mickey is a tailor who is mistakenly taken for a brave hero, and is asked to help save the kingdom from a sinister giant. As Mickey tries to get out of his predicament, he is offered the hand of the princess, "Minnie." Of course, he cannot resist, and he sets out to take down the giant.  Ah, the things we do for love!

Day 4: Favorite Prince - Flynn Rider (Eugene)
"Tangled"

"I didn't want to have to do this, but you leave me no choice. Here comes the smolder." - Flynn Rider

Flynn Rider (Eugene) is my favorite Disney Prince. Why? Because he is unique! He is not at all what you would expect from a prince. I think his character is a great illustration of how one can completely turn his/her life around. He begins the movie as a theif and ends the movie as a prince.  Plus, he is hilarious! "They just can't get my nose right!" - Flynn Rider

Finding Nemo 3D

Last night my awesome four year old and I went on a "date" to see "Finding Nemo 3D".

I knew we would have a fun time and make some wonderful memories, but I wasn't sure if it was going to be worth the money to see a movie that I had seen a hundred times re-released in 3D.  I mean "Finding Nemo" is already the most beautiful movie made by Pixar in my opinion.  How much better could it really be?

Here is my answer...it was amazing!  There were several moments during the movie that I literally teared up due to the beauty and the intricacy of the details.  There were also many times that I found myself in wonder at just how real it all looked.  And there were even more moments where I was in sheer delight over seeing my son's face as he was submerged into the incredible world of "Finding Nemo."

It was definitely worth it!

"The Incredibles"

"While what? I watch helplessly from the sidelines? I don't think so...not a chance. You're my husband, I'm with you - for better or worse." - Elastigirl

I LOVE Elastigirl/Helen Parr. She is THE SuperMom! There are many days that I wish I had her ability to pull two fighting kids apart while simultaneously greeting guests, solving family issues, serving dinner and feeding a baby. Whew! I get tired just talking about her!

Ahoy There, Mateys!

Today be "Talk Like a Pirate Day."  Yarrrr!!!

image from fanpop

Disney has so many wonderful attractions, shows and movies all about pirates!

Here are just a few of the pirate experiences available at Magic Kingdom!

*Pirates of the Caribbean is located in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom  This is a classic dark ride/boat ride.  Pirates is actually the last attraction that Walt Disney himself worked on (of course it was the Disneyland, California version)

When you take this ride where "Dead men tell no tales," make sure ye hold on to yer sword!  Thar be a trick or two up them pirates' sleeves, thar be!

While waiting in the queue for Pirates of the Caribbean, keep an eye out for some cleverly placed cannonballs.  You might just find yer self a treasure of a jolly rodent!  ;)

image from disneyworld.disney.go

*Transform yourself from a landlubber to a buccaneer at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, when you join The Pirates League (reservations required)!  They will make you up like a pirate, teach you some scurvy, pirate moves, and even give you a jolly, pirate name.  Then in the afternoon, you get to be a part of the Adventureland Pirate Parade!  Yo Ho, Yo Ho a Pirate's Life for YOU!

*The perfect way to say an old "heave ho" to your WDW pirate adventure is to set sail on the seven seas lagoon for the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage (special ticket required).  This adventure offers photo opportunities with Captain Hook and Mr. Smee as well as the story of Peter Pan told by your pirate guide.  You can then enjoy the Wishes Nighttime Spectacular while sailing along, and on select nights watch the Electrical Water Pageant.  Ships Ahoy!

Days Filled with Dumbo

For me and my boys, there is no Disney movie more special than "Dumbo."

When we have time for a good cuddle and a movie, we watch "Dumbo."
My boys & me watching "Dumbo" when C was 2 1/2 & D was only 1 wk old.

When my boys are upset or sick, I sing one of our favorite songs from "Dumbo," "Baby Mine."

When we go to Walt Disney World, the ride that I look forward to riding with my kids the most is, "Dumbo, the Flying Elephant."
This is the sign from the old queue.

With the New Fantasyland expansion, the attraction:  Dumbo the Flying Elephant has had quite an overhaul!  Located in the Storybook Circus area, there is now double the fun with 2 sets of flying elephants!  The new queue is also an experience on its own.  Disney is utilizing a new pager system that allows you to enjoy the big top waiting area while your place in line is virtually held for you!  The waiting area (which is air conditioned) is complete with slides, climbing nets, a toddler play area and plenty of seating for the adults.  Great idea Disney!

The Storybook Circus area of New Fantasyland is already open and running for Disney guests.  In the Storybook Circus area you can also find the Casey Jr., Splash 'N' Soak Station.  This splash park is decorated as the famous train Casey Jr. from "Dumbo."  How fun!  Included in the decor are some great hidden treasures.  Next time you go, check out the numbers on the train cars:  71, 82, 89, 98.  Do you know why these numbers are significant?  If so, leave a comment!

Disney Princess Royal Court

We all know that Disney has a way of doing everything in grand fashion, so of course Disney would have an official Disney Princess Royal Court!

Currently the Disney Princess Royal Court consists of 10 lovely ladies who are either royal by birth, marriage, or have important status within their community.
The latest addition to the Disney Princess Royal Court was Rapunzel.  She was inducted into the Royal Court in October 2011 with a ceremony including all 10 princesses at Kensington Palace in London, UK.

With Pixar's latest release, "Brave" has come Pixar's first princess, Merida.  Will she be the next member of the Disney Princess Royal Court?

Day 2: Favorite Princess - Belle

"Oh! Isn't this amazing? It's my favorite part because you'll see. Here's where she meets prince charming. But she won't discover that it's him till chapter three." - Belle "Beauty and the Beast"

With 10 official Disney Princesses in the Disney Princess Royal Court, it was very hard for me to choose only 1 favorite princess.

Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" would have to be my favorite Disney Princess, because of her complex character. She is an intelligent, independent woman, who values family, education, love and beauty.

Day 1: Favorite Character - Sebastian

"Percussion, Strings, Winds, Words" - Sebastian, "The Little Mermaid"

I absolutely LOVE Sebastian!  His character has always spoken to me, as he is a musician and so am I!  The music in "The Little Mermaid" is amazing, and Sebastian is front and center of it all. He brings energy and excitement to the film!  I mean, who can sit still during "Under the Sea?"  I certainly can't!
